Mr Heman Joshi

Heman Joshi was appointed as a Consultant Laparoscopic General and Colorectal Surgeon to Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge in 2020 and is also the Clinical Lead for Sepsis.  

He undertook advanced surgical training in London and Oxford and further international sub-specialist training during a Robotic Surgery fellowship in South Korea. He is skilled in minimally invasive surgical techniques (e.g. key-hole, robot-assisted, single-port) and is fully accredited in Bowel Cancer Screening Endoscopy. 

He completed his Doctorate in Philosophy (DPhil) at the University of Oxford. He is one of only a few surgeons in the world to undertake laboratory based research into the aetiological factors associated with pelvic floor dysfunction. This research was undertaken with a view to discovering novel and customised treatments to a patients individual tissue type.

His private practice is based at Nuffield Health Cambridge Hospital and Cambridge Spire Lea Hospital where he is also the Clinical Lead for Endoscopy and the MAC Consultant representative for Digestive Diseases. 

Mr. Joshi treats patients with bowel cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, pelvic floor disorders, diverticular disease, proctological conditions such as haemorrhoids (Rafaelo, THD), fistulas (VAAFT), pilonidal disease (EPSiT) and fissures (BoToX) as well as abdominal wall hernias.  

Mr Joshi is actively involved in research with several publications in peer-reviewed journals and is a co-investigator on various clinical trials and routinely recruits patients to support a range of research studies. 

He is a recognised surgical trainer having served on the national executive committee of the Association of Surgeons in Training and was a Lecturer in Medical Education at the University of Liverpool and University College London. He was also Tutor at St Edmund Hall, University of Oxford where his contributions were acknowledged with a prestigious teaching award for two consecutive years.  He is actively engaged with teaching at the University of Cambridge and routinely supervises undergraduate and postgraduate research projects. 

Outside of work he is a keen sportsman and still plays cricket competitively as a member of the Marylebone cricket club (MCC) but prefers to spend any spare time with his young family.
